“In This Transparency There Will Be Another Transparency, for
a Moment,” begins with two distinct musical elements: fierce flurries of grace notes that are metrically unconnected to any “target pitches,” and aggressively accented thirty- second notes that punctuate the texture in pointillistic fashion. As the movement proceeds, more of the isolated thirty-second notes appear, forming larger constellations of
complex polyrhythms that gradually enfold the grace note figures, effectively filling the empty metrical space. Essentially, Byron has constructed a sophisticated musical form by
which the effervescent and seemingly ornamental quality of grace notes becomes a functional part of an accumulation process leading to strict articulation.

Had the pleasure of attending Andy Lee's performance world premiere of "pianist, alone (2)" at CalArts in September 2013. Hearing it again now, it re-strikes me as uniquely, if quietly, stunning. Man music mechanism: all engaged in a pure probing of sonic possibility. Essential, restrained, ultimately rapturous. George Wallace

After getting to know the music of Radigue, of whom I had never heard during a long life of collecting music, the discovery of C.C. Hennix is a serendipity of similar proportions. Even if the joke is on me, first I thought there was precious little tambourine on this record, only to realise my error with a joyful sigh - this is so much better than expected! nederlanditis

Though Dreyblatt’s compositional method is largely complex, his songs have the hard-hitting simplicity of rock 'n’ roll. Bandcamp Album of the Day Aug 15, 2023
