Had the pleasure of attending Andy Lee's performance world premiere of "pianist, alone (2)" at CalArts in September 2013. Hearing it again now, it re-strikes me as uniquely, if quietly, stunning. Man music mechanism: all engaged in a pure probing of sonic possibility. Essential, restrained, ultimately rapturous.

After getting to know the music of Radigue, of whom I had never heard during a long life of collecting music, the discovery of C.C. Hennix is a serendipity of similar proportions. Even if the joke is on me, first I thought there was precious little tambourine on this record, only to realise my error with a joyful sigh - this is so much better than expected!
